If you've been fortunate to send your kids to Fig Tree Pocket State School, you (or definitely your children) would be well familiar with Annette - an absolute icon of our neighbourhood and champion of the Tuckshop. We spoke with Annette to find out her history with this very special place.

How did you come to live in Fig Tree Pocket (FTP), and how long have you been here now?

We have lived in FTP for 26 years. We were originally from Sydney, then we moved to Mackay for 5 years, with Dennis’s work. Another move with work brought us to Brisbane. We stayed at the Radisson, driving around Brisbane everyday, to find a suburb to live in. We found FTP and have been here ever since.

What do you love most about living here?

Everything. We walk around the river everyday. Chat to all the neighbours. We feel blessed to live here.

How do you spend your weekends?

Walks around the river. Spending time with family and friends. We love the Brisbane Lions, so go to all home games at the 'Gabba.

What do you do for work?

I work at FTP State School Tuckshop. I have worked there for 25 years.

What are your plans once we get out of this COVID-19 pandemic?

When this pandemic is over Dennis and I would love to travel overseas. Italy & Greece would be great. 

Best place you've ever holidayed?

Britain if overseas. Or I love travelling in our motorhome.

What fills your heart?

My six grandchildren. I love spending time with all of them.

What would be your perfect day?

Perfect day for me would be...

A walk around the river.

Watch my grandkids play sport.

Watch the lions win at the Gabba.

Then go to one of our family dinners. Something we try to do every month.

Best movie you've ever seen and why?

I don’t have a favourite movie. I love going to the movies with my girls and husband. I just enjoy the whole experience.

What is the meaning of life?

Caring for the people I love. Think of other people before yourself. Always doing you best.
